Marina Etiquette

A gentle reminder, the docks are for everyone. That means if you have a dinghy, kayak, cooler, or some other object on the dock, even if it is on your finger, other tenants or your neighbors
have to side-step your belongings. If a boat is coming into its slip and the line tender cannot safely step off the boat on to the finger without running through an obstacle course, it’s a
prescription for a dangerous situation. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping the docks and fingers clear, making the docks safe and fun for everyone.

Thanksgiving Day

The Harbormaster’s Office will be closed on Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th.

We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday with family and friends!

Information Update

If you have changed your address or phone number, please contact the Harbor Office to provide us with the new information. It is very important that we are able to contact you, especially in the event of an emergency with your vessel.

Butane Stove Safety

Butane stoves are a great way to cook however, certain safety hazards must be addressed. The butane used to light the stove is extremely flammable and hazardous, and users are urged to follow strict safety guidelines to lessen their chances of getting injured.

• Make sure to have proper ventilation
• Store stove and fuel canisters separately – out of direct sunlight and not in the vicinity of open flames. It’s a good idea to place in storage tanks on deck
• Use the appropriate tank size – using a too large tank could possibly overload the pressure valves
• Only use butane stoves that have a safety shut off switch that will turn off the stove if the pressure becomes too high or the stove too hot

Winter Preparations

It’s hard to think of winter coming upon us, but it sneaks up sooner than we think! And nobody wants a call on a wet windy night, to be told that their boat has a problem. So, here are a few preparatory suggestions for winterizing your boat and slip:

Make sure your dock box lids are locked or secured. The wind can rip them off, sending them airborne, causing damage to boats.
Secure your halyards: Stop the banging and damaging chafe.
Check your dock lines: Do you have spring lines on your boat? Are the lines properly secured? Is your boat off the dock, no matter what direction the wind is from?
Engine maintenance: Fill your fuel tanks to avoid condensation over the winter months.
Batteries: Clean the terminal ends and apply a light coat of grease. Check the water level.
Clean out the scuppers and drains.
Check your bilge.

Keep Your Keys to Yourself

We would like to ask that our berthers not loan gate keys out to people working on their boats. This is for your safety and the safety of your fellow berthers. The Harbor Office is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Saturday. Boat workers should obtain dock keys directly from the office.

Marina Theft Prevention

While Grand Marina employees and tenants keep a watchful eye on our marina, as well as night security, thefts still happens. Some suggestions to prevent crimes of opportunity include avoiding leaving valuable items on deck, docks or in an unlocked dock box. Lock kayaks, skiffs, bicycles and outboards to prevent theft or joyriding. Stow equipment in locked compartments, cabins or at home. Lock windows, hatches and doors. Use an engraving tool to mark items with an identification number (driver’s license, name, or phone number). This makes it easier to identify and return recovered items to their rightful owner.
